Anwar Maqsood calls reports of his kidnapping, torture ‘fake news’

Pakistan’s renowned screenwriter, host, satirist and comedian Anwar Maqsood on Sunday dismissed reports that he was abducted, tortured and threatened by unidentified people a few days ago.

In recent times, such news has been circulating on social media, in which it has been claimed that Maqsood was kidnapped a few days ago. He was threatened, tortured and slapped to prevent him from speaking out against the current government and its “supporters”.

Responding to the reports, Maqsood said, “The news going on about me on social media is baseless.”

Terming it as “fake news”, Maqsood asked his fans to ignore the “baseless” claims.

He said, “I neither have any account on social media nor do I look at social media.”

Maqsood also said that people were informing him about the report through telephone calls.

The renowned screenwriter said, “I not only refute all such news but also condemn those who spread such news without verification.”
