Hareem Shah, one of the most popular social media personalities in Pakistan, on Thursday said she has joined a mainstream political party in the United Kingdom at the invitation of its leader.
Without revealing the name of the political party she claims to have joined, Hareem Shah said there are three major political parties in Britain and “I have joined one of them.” She said, ‘I cannot reveal the name of the party yet, but I can confirm that I have joined it.’
Labour, Tories and Liberal Democrats are the three mainstream political parties in Britain.
Hareem said that a senior leader of one of these parties invited him to join it. She said that she plans to contest elections in the future and become a member of the British Parliament. He said, “You will see me in the British Parliament.”
He said that these parties need young and popular influencers and claimed that one of these parties approached him because he is in the top search ranking of Google. He said, “I am popular. I am also among the most searched people in the world.”
Hareem further said that he was lucky that he was contacted in this way. She said that she will win the elections through free and fair means and will raise her voice for Pakistan. “I am already working for human rights,” she said.
Last week, Scotland Yard had provided security to Hareem after he complained to the police about threats he was receiving from some people. He had complained to the police that he was being blackmailed, followed and threatened.
Some British Pakistanis had accused Hareem of stealing £6,000 in Manchester and then fleeing to London. Hareem denied the allegation and said that his accusers should go to the police instead of defaming him on social media.
However, London police provided protection to Hareem and the UK government’s Modern Slavery Human Trafficking Unit (MSHTU) became involved in the investigation.
Hareem left Pakistan more than a year ago and has not returned to the country since. She says that she is now living permanently in London.
