Colombia celebrates Shakira’s contributions with 21-foot-tall bronze statue

When someone said Shakira was an icon, Colombians took it seriously! Global star Shakira has been immortalized in a 21.3 feet (6.5 m) bronze statue to celebrate the Colombian diva’s contribution to her country’s music and culture.

Barranquilla Mayor Jaime Pumarejo unveiled the 21-foot-tall statue in a park along the Magdalena River. Shakira’s parents were present at the unveiling of the statue on Tuesday.

Shakira’s statue shows the curly-haired diva dancing with her hands on her head, wearing a transparent skirt with shiny aluminum embellishments that highlight her diversity and rich personality.

The statue, created by artist Yino Marquez, “shows millions of girls that they can, that they can fulfill their dreams and that any one of them can achieve what they want,” said Pumarejo.

A plaque celebrating the singer reads, “A heart that composes, buttocks that do not lie, an unmatched talent, a voice that inspires people and feet that move for the good of children and humanity. “

Shakira, who lives in Miami, expressed her gratitude and said that she was honored with the statue and that Barranquilla will always be her home.

On Instagram, Shakira shared a photo of her parents posing in front of a bronze statue of her daughter, writing, “I’m happy to share this with my parents and especially with my mother on her birthday. It is happening.”

“My parents, the mayor and I are back there watching! Oh and this dedication. It’s too much for my little heart,” she shared.

In another post she shared, “I’m so excited by this tribute to Colombian women and Barranquillaras inside and outside our soil!”
